As photoshop turns 25, the effects the image-altering programme has on our society have been pretty negative so far. However, Emma Roberts recently became the latest advocate for going photoshop-free with her promotional photoshoot for Aerie – the lingerie brand that made a big splash when they decided to put out their campaign photos, un retouched.
Speaking to UsWeekly, 24 year-old Emma Roberts said:
I have a little sister who’s 14, and I see how insecure she gets looking at photos on Instagram and Twitter. People post photos that aren’t real. So to be able to be like, ‘This is me as Emma, not Emma Roberts,’ was important to me. As an actress, who’s always doing shoots getting their hair and makeup done, putting on these outfits that aren’t necessarily you, I felt it was important to do something that was me.
Although celebrities aren’t always the best role models for young girls, Emma Roberts is proving that she’s choosing to go against the Hollywood grain.
The 24 year-old is playful, yet sexy in her pictures, which will be part of the #AerieREAL campaign. The Scream Queens star, is not only acting as a role model for her teenaged sister, but also for her fans. She rose first rose to prominence as Addie Singer in the Nickelodeon series, Unfabulous, and even though Roberts became famous at such a young age, she seems to be staying grounded – a rarity for child stars in Hollywood. This might have something to do with the fact that Julia Roberts just happens to be her aunt – not a bad person to look up to either.
We love to see young women who are choosing to inspire and hope that Emma Roberts continues to show how empowering it is to go photoshop-free.
